I’m asking Wrexham people and businesses to sign up for a free dementia awareness training course.

It will be held at the Lemon Tree Restaurant on Rhosddu Road from 5.30pm on January 12.

Aimed at anyone who deals with members of the public in their work, the course will be run by the Alzheimer’s Society and will help people to understand what dementia is, how to recognise it, and how best to support people with dementia.

The session should last around 45 minutes and also contains suggestions on relatively small changes business and organisations can make to help people with Dementia.

It is the start of a series of events aimed at making Wrexham dementia friendly, and follows on from an exploratory meeting which was held last Autumn.

Staff from my office have already received similar training from the Alzheimer’s Society, and I know they found it helpful -; I would urge businesses and organisations in Wrexham to come along and find out more about how they can help people with dementia.

There are a lot of people in Wrexham who will be helping our town become dementia friendly this year and I will be working alongside them as the year progresses. I would especially like to thank the staff and manager at the Lemon Tree for hosting this event, and to the Alzheimer’s Society for running it.

With their help, and the help of local businesses and organisations, we will make Wrexham a dementia friendly town.

Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the work to make Wrexham dementia friendly is more than welcome to get in touch with me.
