I raised the case of Dee Valley Water in a debate on the Wales Bill in Parliament this afternoon and said that the Government and regulators have let us all down.
Among the proposals in the bill is the further devolution of powers over water to Wales -; something which I supported, while pointing out the UK Government had refused to intervened in Dee Valley Water’s case.
A court case set for tomorrow will decide on the future of the company. While I cannot comment directly on the case as it is before the courts, I am disappointed that regulators OFWAT and the Competitions and Markets Authority have chosen not to intervene in the takeover.
I have been in close touch with staff at Dee Valley Water and I know that tomorrow’s case is hugely important to them. I will be watching closely, but as I told the Commons, this situation should never have arisen -; and, in my view, would not have come about if the Welsh Government had the relevant powers.
