New direct flights from Manchester Airport to the USA will help North Wales businesses.

However, more needs to be done to move forward transport links between North Wales and North West England for Wrexham businesses to be able to exploit the full benefits.

The new flights -; launched this week -; link Manchester and San Francisco directly and has been welcomed as a boost for tech industries in the north, with 30 business leaders on the first flight taking part in a trade mission to the US.

Securing this service -; the UK’s first non-stop service from anywhere outside London- is a real boost for Manchester Airport and for our regional economy. It is very good news for businesses in North West England and North Wales.

As these services increase, it is vital that we make sure our businesses can access Manchester Airport as easily as possible. That’s why I have been campaigning for better services to the airport, such as the additional direct trains I worked with Arriva Trains Wales to secure last year.

We need to take successes like that and build on them, strengthening our transport links across the region to important hubs like our airports, to give our businesses the best possible chance to thrive.

The Government is stressing the importance of global links following the triggering of Article 50 this week. Investing in infrastructure developments -; such as regional transport links -; will be a crucial part of that picture, and I hope to hear firm commitments from the UK Government to our region soon.
