I’ve spoken to the consumer watchdog for water in Wales – and raised concerns about the effect the recent takeover of Welsh water companies could have.


At an event in Westminster this week, I met with Tom Taylor, the Chair of the Wales Committee of the Consumer Council for Water to discuss how consumers can raise concerns and complaints about the industry.

Having opposed the recent takeover of Dee Valley Water by the larger Severn Trent Water, I raised my concern that the standard of services for his constituents must not slip as a result of the takeover.

Figures given to me during the briefing show that there were around 18 complaints about Dee Valley Water for every 1,000 connections by the company -; the industry average is almost 34.

Customers and consumers were clearly happy with the company before it was taken over -; it was local, responsive and based in its community.

I made clear during my meeting this week that I did not want to see a drop in the standards of service for my constituents -; and will be keeping a close eye on the number of complaints.
