VETERANS in Wrexham are being supported by two great housing projects – both of which I’ve been to see this month.

I visited Ty Dewr on Bryn Estyn Road this week, one of two projects in Wrexham which provide housing for forces veterans. The visit followed a similar visit at the start of the month to the other project, on Croesnewydd Road in the town, where I was accompanied by Shadow Defence Secretary Nia Griffiths.

The visit was to catch up with staff at Ty Dewr and to see how residents at the site were getting along. Both Wrexham sites are working closely together, with the Croesnewydd development set to open in the near future and. Residents who had been based at Ty Dewr  have been helping in its construction with some already moving across.

Between them, the sites are offering dedicated accommodation to armed forces veterans, alongside support and help. The sites have come together through a range of organisations working together, including the council, First Choice Housing Association and others.

At Ty Dewr, the team running the accommodation are from the Salvation Army, an organisation which already has strong Wrexham links. During my visit we talked about their specific work with veterans locally, as well as supporting people into homes across Wrexham more generally.

It was a very worthwhile visit -; and I even won a game of pool with one of the residents!
