I’m really pleased that even more Wrexham groups have had their work to help people with dementia recognised.

They are part of a project involvesĀ  support provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, where organisations which have taken part have to show how they have met a series of pledges which help support people wo are living with dementia. Training to help people become Dementia Friends is also made available, and those who take part learn ways in which they can speak to, help and assist people with dementia who they meet during their working day.

I am supporting the project across the constituency, and undertook Dementia Friends training alongside Lesley Griffiths AM, Susan Elan Jones MP and staff in 2014. I have also encouraged Wrexham businesses, schools, faith groups and other organisations to sign up and to support the Dementia Friendly town project.

A recent awards ceremony was held for some of those who were involved, and Dementia Friendly Wrexham members have also visited groups linked to several organisations who took part -; Clarks, St Giles Parish Church and St Christopher’s School – at their workplaces to present them with certificates.

Every person who takes part in this scheme deserves our thanks -; they are helping to make our town a more supportive place for people with dementia.

Each of them has demonstrated their commitment to the project, and set out practical steps which they are taking in their workplace. That commitment really does make a difference, and I’d urge any Wrexham group who hasn’t yet taken part -; but who wants to find out more -; to look into signing up.
