A better deal for North Wales

I’ve told Ministers we need more than warm words from them to help develop our national and local infrastructure.

North Wales businesses want to see the Government commit to taking action for the region – rather than just talking about action.

In a green paper, launched today in North West England, the Government sets out a series of proposals to build its industrial strategy. In reference to North Wales, Ministers say they will “consider” a proposed Growth Deal for our area when it is put forward.

I have been raising transport and infrastructure issues with Government Ministers continually. Their line is always that they will consider issues at some point in the future – a line repeated in today’s Green Paper.

Warm words will only take the Government so far, however. At some point, they will need to stop talking and start taking action.

We know that investment in North Wales will boost our economy and people from across our region have worked together to make the case for investment. What they want to hear from Ministers is how – and when – the Government will invest to make our strategy a reality.
