A way forward for broadband?

I took part in a debate on broadband services and called on the Government to set up a broadband council to bring key players together.

The suggestion follows similar successful projects in the automotive and aerospace sectors and I hope Ministers listen.

I was disappointed in the partisan tone some Conservatives brought to the debate yesterday – some would still rather trade party political insults rather than work together on this.

We all want to see the same thing – better broadband and mobile links. I know people in Wrexham have concerns, which is why I am working with Virgin Media – who I met with this morning to discuss the practicalities of setting up their network in Wrexham.

As I said in the debate, I would like to see communications companies like Virgin working alongside others so we get the benefit of all their expertise. It is that kind of practical, common sense approach that will help our constituents – not trading political barbs.
