Council Leader should take responsibility for the Groves saga

WREXHAM Council’s issues with the Groves site are the responsibility of its council leader.

The site has come under renewed focus in recent days, and I’m calling on Council Leader Mark Pritchard – who withdrew the council from an agreement to develop the site – to take responsibility for his decision.

He took Wrexham Council out of an agreement with Coleg Cambria to redevelop the Groves site. He then, without consultation with the wider public or elected representatives in the town, held secret meetings to try to formulate a new proposal to demolish the existing buildings.

We only know of these meetings because of a Freedom of Information request by the Save Our Heritage Group and even Councillors were not told of the proposals. The people of Wrexham have never been told the detail of these proposals and no public consultation on any proposals for the site has been held by the Council.

Councillor Pritchard has been told repeatedly to bring forward proposals for the site and consult on them. He has failed to do so and is responsible personally for any loss the Council is suffering and has suffered.
