A PLANNING application to provide a new custody suite at Wrexham’s Courts is welcome news.
It is concrete evidence that the Ministry of Justice has committed to Wrexham’s courts.
In an era of austerity, when Government departments are cutting back on regional investment and on their physical presence in communities like Wrexham, this proposal is very much welcome.
There have been long-standing concerns among the legal community in Wrexham about the commitment of the MoJ to the town. However, new facilities for Wrexham’s courts are not only being considered by Ministers, but have been put forward as a planning application to Wrexham Council. That news will be very welcome and shows that the pressure to keep Wrexham’s courts has worked.
More widely, this application will be one of several which will be taking place in the town centre in the coming months – it is important that Wrexham Council are clear about their vision for the area, and that local people are fully involved in that vision.
