Cricket's return to BBC welcomed

I’m a long-time advocate of improved sports coverage on free-to-air television and it’s great news that the BBC will be showing live cricket from 2020 for the first time in more than two decades.

The announcement, made earlier today, follows an agreement between the England and Wales Cricket Board and the BBC. Live coverage of men’s and women’s Twenty20 internationals and the new men’s domestic Twenty20 tournament – as well as highlights of other matches – will feature as part of the package.

The BBC’s coverage of live sport – particularly cricket – is something that I have raised with the corporation before.

I know that there has been a concerted effort to bring live cricket back to terrestrial television – it is great news that that work has paid off. Our next focus should be bringing back test cricket to terrestrial TV.
