I am backing a campaign to help ensure my constituents get better mobile coverage.
The Make The Air Fair campaign is calling on Ofcom to make sure no one mobile network can own more than 30 per cent of the UK’s mobile airwaves – also known as the spectrum.
The campaign has also received the backing of a variety of communications providers including Three UK, CityFibre, Relish, the Federation of Communication Services, and TalkTalk.
They want to see changes to change the dominance of the mobile spectrum by BT, after the recent merger of BTEE – which owns almost half of the UK’s airwaves.
The campaign calls on regulators OFCOM to put a limit in place meaning no once company can own more than 30 per cent of mobile spectrum. OFCOM are currently running a consultation before an auction of mobile spectrum is held next year and I’m asking for the limit to be put in place before the auction –and urging people in Wrexham to speak up too.
It’s important that people make their voice heard on this – I know that there are concerns about mobile signal in Wrexham.
I think it is important that people are offered a choice of mobile provider and would encourage people to sign up to the campaign and make their views heard.
Wrexham people can sign up at www.maketheairfair.org – the consultation closes at the end of January.
