New rail franchise should deliver a step change for transport in Wrexham

KeolisAmey, who will take over the Wales and Borders rail franchise from Arriva Trains Wales in October, can bring huge benefits to Wrexham and the rest of North Wales.

I am keen to see improvements made to our transport system and this new 15-year franchise is an opportunity to deliver a complete step change for the region’s rail network.

We already have an hourly rail service between Wrexham and Chester, and I am very hopeful that a half-hourly service can be brought in – certainly to Chester and hopefully also through the Wirral towards Liverpool.

A more regular service would make a real difference in terms of travel times to work for people in our area, where our roads can become congested.

We need much better integration of bus and rail services, and need to ensure that wherever you are in North Wales, you have good access to public transport.

As chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the North Wales, Mersey and Dee regions, I will be writing to KeolisAmey to ask if we can meet to discuss this crucial franchise.
