Along with a cross-part group of MPs, I’ve met with Transport Minister Paul Maynard to push for more investment in North Wales Transport by the UK Government.
The meeting was constructive. There is a strong case for investment in North Wales – set out in the excellent Growth Track 360 report, backed by councils, businesses and many more across the region.
In our meeting with the Minister, we discussed some of the practicalities behind making the proposals work in a unique region which crosses the border of two countries. The work we are carrying out already as an All Party group includes MPs from both sides of the border, and we discussed with the Minister how that work could be reflected in the body which would implement these proposals.
The Minister was left under no illusion that there is united cross party and cross-border support for these proposals and a real enthusiasm to make them work – and that the support of his Government is vital.
This is an investment which will pay off for North Wales – with a huge boost to the productivity of the region and to our economy.
We have had a lot of talk from the Government about its support for these plans – they now need its financial backing too.
