MY PARLIAMENTARY work is a vital part of my job. Parliamentary debate and discussion remains at the heart of British life and I do my very best to promote Wrexham’s interests in Westminster
My job involves much more than making speeches in the House. I have special interests in Transport, Education, Home Affairs and the Environment, and have used my time in Parliament to highlight each of them and their relevance to Wrexham. You can keep in touch with my contributions on the Parliamentary Website at www.parliament.uk.
I am currently the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister of
State forimmigration, Liam Byrne. The post means I act as a point of
contact between Liam and MPs in Parliament, and I hold regular meetings
at the Home Office. The work is an invaluable insight into the way the
issues surrounding immigration are handled by the Government
Questions:
Another important part of the job of a Member of Parliament is to ask questions of Government.
I can ask any Government Minister a written question and they have to give me an answer. This is very useful to get the facts for constituents or local companies who have contacted me with a problem or an issue which needs investigation.
For instance, I have recently asked a number of questions of the Department of Health and the Department for Trade and Industry about issues which affect companies in Wrexham. I have also raised individual constituents’ concerns with the Home Office, the Foreign Office and other departments.
There are also regular oral question sessions which I often take part in, including Welsh Questions which I have used to highlight issues in Wrexham and to gain information of use to my constituents.
