Speak out on army plans

Ministers have confirmed they are not currently planning to close Hightown Barracks after I made them answer questions on its future.

I am pleased that Ministers have clarified their plans for the site and that they say they have no current plans to close the centre as a whole.

However, they are still planning to take a battalion away from Wrexham and I know that there is considerable concern in the town about these proposals. They are part of a wider pattern of jobs and services being taken away from Wrexham by the Government.

I will continue to oppose the Government’s plans to take away 101 Battalion REME alongside local campaigners and there will be more news on this front very soon.

I’m working with the local councillors to raise awareness. You can sign a petition to oppose the Government’s plans on my site which I’ll present to Parliament.
